Using the IGS-190-M for Motion Capture

One of the newest methods of motion capture is the IGS-190-M, a gyroscopic inertial motion capture system that is perhaps the simplest system to use. The IGS-190-M is compact, easy to set up and use, and doesn't require a studio setup-you can take it with you wherever you need motion capture. It features a unique algorithm that focuses on creating data with solid footsteps. You won't end up with any data featuring useless mushy footsteps; instead, you'll get the solid data you need the first time, so you won't waste time and money repeating the motion capture.

How does the IGS-190-M gyroscopic motion capture system work? Well, it uses nineteen small gyros that you attach to either a flexible Lycra suit or to a person's clothing uses straps. The system then captures all movement by the individual. These gyros are incredibly fast, capturing 1,200 deg/sec, and in fact are the fastest motion capture gyros on the market today. The entire system is incredibly easy to use and captures accurate data in real-time.

What is it that makes the IGS-190-M so great for motion capture? Well, part of it is the ExacTrax Ultrasonic Tracking System. This system actually uses sonar that changes the IGS-190-M into an IGS-190-H, or hybrid model. This sonar rig is absolutely necessary if you're doing multi-actor projects or live TV, and it helps clean up the data for post-processing. Many other inertial systems simply lack this ability. However, after two years of extensive study and development, the IGS-190-M can easily provide all the global positioning data you need.

The ExacTrax system features 20 microphones standard, but that can be expanded to a whopping 96. You can place these microphones in any shape necessary, and you can even use them with multiple floors and stairways. The system can also use up to four different IGS-190-M systems, or, if you're not doing any sporty motions, up to eight. The software can, however, actually be used without any of the sonar rigs in order to edit data you've captured with other IGS-190-M units. This means you can get the same high quality optical results without using the IGS-190-H hybrids, although it might take you a little bit longer in the editing process.

Even if you don't use the ExacTrax system, each and every IGS-190-M units come with the license for the hybrid software. This means you can make use of all the editing programs, including the keyframe editor, without purchasing additional licenses. The keyframe editor is one of the key pieces of software, and it was specially designed for the IGS-190-M to achieve top quality motion capture data.
