The Christian population to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25 celebrates Christmas throughout the world. This day also marks the beginning of the longer holiday season of Christmastide or Yuletide up to January 6, otherwise known as Christmas holidays. Activities during the holidays include Church celebrations, exchange of Christmas cards, gift-giving, display of decorated Christmas trees, lights, mistletoe, nativity scenes and Santa Claus, the popular mythical figure associated with bringing gifts for children on Christmas day.

Among the many non-Christian population and countries, a Christmas holiday is also an annual cultural festival. Considering several aspects of the holidays involve increased economic activity like buying cards, giving gifts, purchase of new clothes and dresses, travel to different holiday destinations, demand for airline tickets and accommodations, etc. among both Christians and non-Christians; Christmas is a major event for business people and retailers. A period of heightened activity of rushing through super-markets and stores to buy chosen gifts, planning parties, attending celebrations, eating, drinking and enjoying the break.

Christmas holidays in the northern hemisphere is celebrated during the winter season, with snow and ice all around. A fabulous time for winter sports and skiing down the snow-capped mountain slopes. But in the southern hemisphere it is summer and in countries like Australia or New Zealand, Christmas is synonymous with holidays in the sun, for outing with family and friends on a picnic or an escape to a favorite holiday destination.

After a busy year and the flurry of activities before, during and after Christmas day, a Christmas Break is necessary to catch your breath. If you are in the southern hemisphere, you can head to the sandy golden beaches, stay in a beach house, soak in the sun, splash in the ocean or read some good books and enjoy the outdoors. You and your family can go on a camping trip and pitch your tent in the camping grounds or go hiking up the mountainous terrain and along coastal walkways. To escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, you can drive yourself into the countryside and enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere of rural life and participate in the day-to-day farming activities of the local folks. Many among you may love adventure sports and to get your adrenalin pumping you can go for sky diving, bungee jumping, white water rafting, jet boating, surfing, paragliding or absailing.

In the northern hemisphere, particularly in UK and Europe, a tour to Northern Europe is a popular option for the magical and beautiful landscape. And if you are able to squeeze in a trip to Finland for the Lapland Christmas break, it is a real deal for kids, as they are able to meet the "real" Father Christmas or Santa Claus. The other activities you can indulge in during the break include, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobiling, skiing and winter sports. Package holidays are available covering flight, travel and accommodation costs. Christmas is a special time and is a perfect opportunity to take the most enjoyable Christmas break.
