Hanging birdfeeders are the best as they deny access to other wild animals. Bird feeders that are protected from squirrels and other wildlife are preferable as they would cause you that much less trouble in maintaining and cleaning the feeders. In addition, wild birds would definitely safer without the sight of a vermin hovering around their feeding place.
