The Criminal Record Bureau or CRB, an executive agency have been introduced to keep the records of criminals and make an environment criminal free in the United Kingdom (UK). Police CRB checks are carried out to keep the criminals at bay from a healthy environment. Under the proper guidance of the government agencies, police CRB checks are carried out to allow the companies to access the past criminal records of a person they are going to recruit.

Police CRB checks are carried out to provide security and safety of kids and vulnerable adults in the UK. They issue the CRB clearance certificates to those individuals who have no any past criminal record. But only after investigating of police files and other criminal records of the state, they issue this certificate.

There are basically two types of check:

1) Standard Check: Standard check is the check for all people who work with kids or vulnerable adults and many professions specified in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. On the basis of the position, standard disclosures might search the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list, the Protection of Children list and any other information.

2) Enhanced Disclosure: Enhanced Disclosure is the top level check for all people who want to be regularly supervising, training, caring or being in charge of kids or vulnerable adults. Enhanced Disclosure is also the check an individual require for judicial appointments or licensing purposes.

The police CRB checks are done with the ISA checks and the VBS checks. The VBS is the Vetting & Barring schemes and the ISA is the Independent Safeguarding Authority. These three bodies work together to keep the criminals out from the society and make an environment secure and safe.

How can you apply for the VBS checks?

An individual in the UK is not eligible to submit an application form directly to the government agencies for police CRB checks, VBS checks and enhanced disclosure procedure. There are numerous private agencies available for the VBS checks to collect an application form and to submit it to the concerned government agency. Then the agency collect the CRB clearance certificate and forward it to you. For their services, they charge very reasonable prices.
