Woman Seeks Accident Compensation Over Crash

A woman who was involved in a crash is seeking accident compensation for her suffering.

In November 2007, Lesley Williams was riding her Honda CBR 600 sports tourer motorcycle towards Widegates near Looe - which is a small coastal town in south-east Cornwall - the Plymouth Herald reports.

The 53-year-old was the third rider within a group of advanced and ordinary motorcyclists.

She attempted to overtake a Suzuki Vitara four-wheel-drive being driven by David Marks and was struck by the vehicle as it turned into Looe Bay Caravan and Camping Park.

As a result of the impact, Ms Williams suffered a shattered pelvis and a fractured arm and leg.

Following the incident, she contacted solicitors to make an injury claim.

A writ issued in the High Court recently suggests Mr Marks turned into the path of the claimant and collided with her, meaning she should be entitled to accident compensation.

It states: "The collision was caused by the negligence of the first defendant."

Ms Williams' legal team argue that her injuries remain "unstable" and she has had to take sick leave since the crash nearly three years ago.

The case between the two sides remains ongoing and it is not yet known whether Ms Williams will receive the money she is after.

People involved in accidents such as this may be entitled to make an injury claim. In order to do so, they must usually register their case within three years from the date of the incident.

There are exceptions to this, however. For example, if the claimant was a child at the time of the accident or if they have been affected by an industrial disease, they may have longer to enter a bid for compensation.

Meanwhile, to be successful, they must prove their suffering was the result of another person's negligence.
