A pensioner from Scotland is seeking accident compensation from her local authority over an incident which destroyed her mobility scooter.
Nancy Smith has contacted accident claims solicitors concerning the case, which she says left her means of transport out of action, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.
The 74-year-old was travelling from her home in Millgate, Winchburgh - which is located around ten miles west of Edinburgh city centre - when a street cleaning lorry reversed into her.
Ms Smith said she feared she may be crushed to death by the yellow truck.
The vehicle was owned by West Lothian Council, which comprises 32 elected councillors and is currently led by Peter Johnston.
She alleges the driver told her he thought he had run over a packet of crisps.
Ms Smith is looking to receive accident compensation for her suffering and suggests she has been left with panic attacks and nightmares as a result of the incident.
She also says she has been housebound for five weeks.
Commenting on the case, she remarked: "There was another lorry on the pavement [so] I had to drive on to the road. I saw the truck at first and it was stationary but all of a sudden it started reversing and hit me.
"It went over the front of the scooter and into my leg. The driver got out and said that he thought he had run over a crisp packet."
West Lothian Council, which is headquartered at the West Lothian Civic Centre on Howden South Road in Livingston, has since issued her with a temporary replacement scooter while accident claims solicitors take her case forward. They have been in touch with the council and have been asked for a repair estimate.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the local authority apologised to Ms Smith for the suffering she has experienced.
