Diabetes is a disease which occurs when your body does not produces enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone secreted from the pancreas in your body which helps to convert sugars and starches into energy which is required for daily activities. Some of the crucial symptoms of diabetes are constant hunger, increased urination, weight loss, blurred vision, increased thirst and fatigue. However, these symptoms if faced alone might not do any harm to you but a combination of these symptoms may be an indication that you are diabetic. If a disease such as diabetes is not treated properly and well in time, then, it might put you at increased risk of catching some more serious diseases like stroke or kidney failure. Diabetes, surely, is a silent killer and needs immediate attention if diagnosed.
Diabetes is diagnosed if a persons blood glucose levels are 126 mg/dl or higher than this. Diabetes is commonly of two types- type I diabetes and type II diabetes. The type I diabetes, which is also known as Insulin Dependent Diabetes, is a disease in which the blood glucose level reach either a very high level (hyperglycemia) or a very low level (hypoglycemia). Type II diabetes is sometimes referred to as mature onset diabetes. This type of diabetes is usually found in children and people who smoke a lot. Diabetes is caused because of three main reasons- a) a prolonged intake of high-carb diet b) irregular and unbalanced diet and c) hereditary. Even in the days of increased awareness, people do not have much knowledge about diabetes. Generally, people suffering from diabetes only seek to treat the symptoms, but do not try to find the root cause of the disease. The dominance of diabetes is increasing all over the world day by day.
Diabetes is a disease which takes over your life very slowly and gradually. Some other types of diabetes apart from type I and type II are gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes.In the past when insulin was not discovered, type I diabetes always proved fatal. On the other hand, type II diabetes could not be diagnosed in the starting stages. This type of diabetes is also often found in pregnant women during the last three months of pregnancy. But it is also seen that, twenty to fifty percent of people develop type II diabetes in later stages of life.
Ladies or mothers suffering from gestational diabetes usually pass on this disease to their children and they are at a greater risk of becoming obese and developing diabetes as teenagers or adults. However, diabetes can be controlled if you start regulating and monitoring your diet. Healthy and nutritious diet is very crucial when dealing with disease like diabetes. Also, exercising is very important for people who are suffering from diabetes.
So, it is always advisable not to ignore any of the symptoms of diabetes as ignorance at the first stage can lead to increased problems later in life. Also, you should never forget the importance of taking a balanced, nutritious diet and exercising regularly as it not only prevents and controls diabetes but other diseases too.
