It is but a sacred vow of every medical practitioner particularly the nurses to take care of their patients to the best of their knowledge and to the extent of their own lives and it is equivalently shocking and saddening to know that there are still who dons nursing uniforms but accidentally forgets their most sacred oath. In August 23, 2010, CNN online reported of a particular nurse from Romania that was detained by the police after investigation showed that because of the nurses' negligence she had left 5 babies to burn when a fire broke out in the hospital she worked at in August 16, 2010. The alleged nurse murderer is expected to be house under the custody of the local police before appearing to a judge 24hrs after to make preliminary hearing about the case.

The nurse has been identified as Florentina Daniela Cirstea, a nurse at Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest. Cirstea's main job according to the report was to supervise regularly the conditions of the babies in ICU of the said hospital. The two boys and the three girls died after suffering severe burns. It was revealed that Cirstea left her post for 12 minutes thus she was incapacitated to rescue the infants when fire already intensified. Another 6 babies were injured in the gruesome ordeal. The 6 babies are currently in critical conditions. It was also found that the cause of the fire was the electrical cable connected to the air conditioning unit. The surveillance camera recording showed Cirstea going out of the ICU several times during the day. Investigation lead by prosecutor Marius Iacob revealed that there was a party in another room in the hospital wherein the staffs were assembled. The prosecutor will further move to sustain the arrest of the suspect for another 29 days so they can continue with the necessary moves.

This could be considered an isolated case as there are only a handful of cases that are similar to this. There are just simply thing that needed to be tackled here before passing the blame and the judgment solely to one person. The story and the moves of the prosecutor would somehow suggest that Cristea, the nurse in nursing uniforms on duty, is being unfairly squared. Though she was the only person that has the access card, there are other underlying factors and solutions that could have been considered. Of course this does not eliminate Cristea in the chain of responsibility.

In the light of the investigation, it is also important to check on the regulation the hospital has. Why do they allow only one person to bear an access card for the ICU? Why is it that there's no emergency entry or exit point to and from the ICU? These questions would also take on the possibility that the hospital itself has lacked in some aspects. On the part of the city authorities, why is it that such electrical malfunction could occur? Did they inspect the installations before it was subjected for use?

Five or six years in the university and another six to ten years of experience in a hospital grant a nurse of expertise and sense of responsibility that are necessary in executing their duties correctly. But accidents do happen in the least time expected. Cirstea may have failed to do just 100% of her job but certainly she has done just every possible thing to be done. The issue should not just be focused to Cirstea and the blame should not be thrown upon her only.
