Nelson is the most popular of NBA history to win coach of screening, it is learned that he is to resign, and the contract with the Warriors on the remaining issues related to reconciliation.

The Warriors pay Nelson $ 6,000,000 for the remaining one year of the contract, but the Warriors - out with a new ownership group of Joe Lacob - is the decision to begin a new stage today.

According to a source, the Warriors have been on a comprehensive agreement with Nelson. Smart an injection to see if it is the future of the coach agreed. It is also the time when a new coach Warriors smart, but not to find people. Nelson is said in the city and a source that he had spoken with Lacob, the incoming owner. Nelson and general manager Larry Riley didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment. Riley was Nelson's assistant coach until the 2008-09 season, when he took over personnel decisions while the Warriors phased out top basketball executive Chris Mullin (FSY).

Looking back at Nelson's Warriors tenure - from 1988 to 1995 and again from 2006 to 2010 - many fans saw a shift in his coaching as though he was already gone, merely calling it in the past couple of years. Nelson was hailed when Mullin hired his former coach to return to Golden State in 2006, and Nelson immediately led the Warriors into the postseason, where the eighth-seeded club upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in 2007. Golden State then won 48 games but barely missed the playoffs after the 2007-08 seasons.

"The first two years and the last two years of Don Nelson were markedly different," said Daniel Turman, 43, of Berkeley, founder of the Fear the Beard site. "Nelson was sort of detached the last couple of years. And that is still a fresh taste in the mouths of a lot of people. There's been this question of how he relates with some of the younger players. So I think Smart, no pun intended, is a smart hire. The whole organization is in transition right now, which gives people an opportunity to do something different, and I think the players are going to react to that in a positive way. I think they'll run through a wall for Smart.

"In the long run (Nelson's departure) will be bittersweet, though," Turman said. "The general take - I think Don's years will be remembered as a good time in Warriors history. I just felt it never really matriculated into what it could have been. But in the long term, he'll be seen as a winning coach who led us to some interesting places."

The Warriors waited until the last days before the camp to make a major change in the new lacob owners Joe and Peter Guber, who bought the club for a record $ 450 million in July Chris Cohan, long reviled owner who is accused by Bay Area fans for the franchise of absence from the playoffs in 15 of the last 16 seasons.
