German sausage is the most delicious food in Germany. Sausage is known to add excellent flavor to the dishes. There are two basic categories of German wurst or sausages:

1) Fresh Sausages: uncooked ones and those requiring reheating or re-cooking falls under this category. Mostly they are made up of raw pork, veal of beef, bacon or ham, egg, pickling salt and spices. Cooked ingredients are used in knockwurst. You should keep cooked and raw sausages in the refrigerator.

2) Slicing & Spreading Sausages: German sausage that is ready to eat in cold cut style is slicing sausage. Soft wurst is also available in the market as spreading sausages.

The method of making sausages has passed down through several generations, since Germans have been preparing it for centuries. Three significant and major regional specialties you can experience here are:

1) Thuringian Rotwurst,

2) Munich Weisswurst, and

3) Nurnberger Bratwurstchen.

Sausages not only taste good but they contain important nutrients as well, such as protein, iron, zinc, Vitamin B, and other vitamins & minerals. Liver sausage is available in different varieties. The best variety contains almost 25% liver. It is a great source of nutrition and energy.
