A Dynamic Configuration Server is used to connect all of the computers and IP enabled devices on a network. With modern technology turning out smarter smartphones, laptops, hand held computers, and other devices that can be connected to the internet via a fixed mobile or Wi-Fi enabled network. Dynamic Configuration Servers are carrier grade DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) servers. They are used by network operators who must have scalability, 100% availability, and performance. Your Dynamic Configuration Server works to augment the basic DHCP operations with high performance architecture, open interfaces for integration with LDAP, RADIUS, and other provisioning systems. They also provide failover capabilities, and IPv6 or DHCPv6 support in order to achieve and provide optimal service.

The Dynamic Configuration Server acts as a high performance DHCP server. This enables the owner of the DCS to provide IP address leasing to any IP-enabled devices. It is optimized for large scale, heterogeneous, highly distributed networking topologies. It also supports these types of environments with the full range of DHCP leasing options, so network owners have the most flexibility and control when deploying IP-centric resources.

Dynamic Configuration Servers are designed to handle very dynamic networking environments with a large number of devices which connect with it. In order to do this a Dynamic Configuration Server has a high performance in-memory cache which allows it to provide thousands and even hundreds of thousands of IP leases. The DCS memory is backed up by a database that has been optimized for DHCP functionality. This enables the DCS to facilitate speedy lease response times and very fast restarts regardless of how many leases are being managed at any one time.

There is also a management layer in a DCS that makes operation, administration, and real time monitoring easy via SNMP traps and log messages which an operator can customize to make auditing easy. A DCS can be integrated with RADIUS, LDAP, and other provisioning system and also provides native API's for a customizable integration with other provisioning systems. Some of the other advanced features that make a Dynamic Configuration Server a powerful tool in any type of network are the active-active failover mechanisms and support for DHCPv6.
