We all like to think of ourselves as careful owners of our precious objects. Most of us are brought up to take care of the things we care about. We don’t like to believe we are clumsy, forgetful, or absent-minded, even if deep down we know we are at least one of those things! On the other hand, taking out iPhone insurance might seem like one of those expenses we could really do without, and risk the possibility of loss or breakage expense should one of those events take place. Well, that may be a reasonable risk, and every one of us has to decide on which risks we are willing to take. Most iPhone insurance plans only cover damage repair or replacement, and even then only if you can demonstrate that it wasn’t your fault! So you might end up paying through the nose for your iPhone insurance, only to find that, when it comes to it, you simply cannot get the payout you thought you were covered for!

It’s definitely worth looking at a number of different companies before you buy your iPhone insurance. You’ll find that, as with most things these days, there’s a crowded market and, therefore, a huge variation in costs and coverage for iPhone insurance plans. • Monthly cost (obviously!)
• Limits to replacement costs
• Time for typical repairs to be done
• Shipping costs and who covers them
• What happens if your phone is stolen
• What happens to lost data

You will find that most companies offering iPhone insurance are competitive in the first of the above items (well, frankly, they have to be, don’t they, or nobody would buy from them) but differ in items 2 and 3. Many iPhone insurance plans require the insured to cover shipping costs (item 4) too, which adds to the expense and cuts into any savings made in the monthly premium. As for items 5 and 6, well, most companies won’t cover you for theft except at an inflated premium, and data recovery is usually not mentioned at all, except by GoCare.
