Travel nursing is big all over the country, but some destinations are more popular among nurses than others. These are the cities that nurses are fighting over to work in. A good traveling nurse job will of course have good pay, benefits and a contract that works with your schedule and lifestyle. A really good job, however, will also be located in one of the following top five states.
Alaska: This may come as a surprise to some, but nursing jobs in Alaska are actually quite popular among traveling RNs. It is a winter wonderland during some parts of the year and a sunny outdoors haven in other parts of the year. Whether you like to ski, snowboard, hike or mountain climb, you’ll find something to do during your “off” time.
Arizona: This is another great place for outdoors lovers, being home to the Grand Canyon and numerous beautiful desert cities. It is an excellent destination for anyone interested in American history, and there is a good number of travel nursing assignments here at any given time due to the large elderly population.
California: This one’s a no-brainer. From the skiing and snowboarding of Tahoe to the mega-cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego to the quaint seaside villages along the Pacific coast, there are more than enough reasons to want to come to this state. The pay for travel nurses is also very good here, and the large population ensures plenty of jobs.
Hawaii: This is another no-brainer. The tourism industry and understaffed local hospitals generate approximately five hundred nursing jobs for travel RNs in these islands every month, providing an opportunity to work in the land of sandy white beaches and piña coladas.
New York: Everyone wants to come to this famous east coast state and visit Big Apple to see Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Empire State Building and all the other natural beauties and wonders of the state.
