History of horror movies and how it has evolved through time

In the recent situation movies have set a wild fashion amongst film lovers without which the world would be a unusual place to live in. Really, you can't think yourself without movies. You are highly influenced by viewing films. You start thinking in wider features because of the healthy impact of films. Be it any film, passionate, comedy, sensitive, family tale, action, mystery, suspense, cartoon or horror it has become a main amusement feature in your lives.


Since the days of Gothic Novels, the stories of vampire, demons, ghosts and devils have become quite popular. From the time of “Anglo-Saxon age” the devils, monsters and the chivalry love which became greatly popular, till present the ghosts and the imps have maintained their existence by bad deeds in the terror films. The very first horror film that was released in the year 1896 was Le Manoir Du Diable-The House of the Devil, by Georges Melies-a well-known French filmmaker. It was released on the Christmas Eve, in Paris. It was a small film for two-minutes which depicted an obsessed and isolated castle and the house where the devil dwelled. After this, horror films earned popularity and curiosity by a lot of people and since the traditional age of English legendary and due to Gothic novels like Dracula, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein and a series of Mummy movies brought the horror movies in limelight.

Horror films gushed into the movie business and some heart pounding horror movies between 1970's and 80's like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street performed exceptionally well in the field of horror films and earned a huge fame. It stayed in the minds of horror movie lovers for many years. Then, in the 1990's a few thrilling horror films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, made a grand arrival and frightened the large number of crowd to the extent that they got tremors also in their sleeps. These films drew a large mass of teenagers from Colleges and High Schools. Then was a phase of the disrupting psychopathic monster that killed people ruthlessly. You have even seen the bloody aggression that depicted scary movies of Tarantino and the greatly scary Asian Horror films.

Later on, for years the horror movies with psychopathic murderer concept along with the remake of Japanese movies and revised editions of classical horror films ruled the minds of the subgenre. The Cannibal Holocaust's of the movie industry were ignored as these were censored and buried for strange reasons. There were a few horror films made after 1994 which comprised top 10 horror scenes and the horror movie Pulp Fiction was greatly appreciated and preceded amongst others. Right from the past, from slasher flicks to psychopathic murderer who murdered innocent girls after which the violent merciless killer films were released that gained high fame. However, the present sufferers are not as naïve as they were before. The horror movies yet show these insane murderers with evil motives to kill and create horror. Eli Roth's Hostel was one of the most scaring movies that was released in the past decade.

The horror films of recent times are quite disturbing and affliction to create havoc and terror in the hearts of the youngsters. But then the latest horror movies with panic creating sound effects and the horrifying graphics has given a new gory horror look to the movies as compared to those in the past. Initially movies were quite simple without any technical effects and sounds but after a huge advancement in the field of pictures these have become more interesting and appealing. There are many Horror and Scary movies that a lot of people who love to watch. The sophisticated technology that creates the sound-effects, the terror graphics and the scary music with darkness in the backdrop is what people are curious to watch in recent horror movies. The crowd wouldn't mind pissing off in their pants but would love to watch any horror films either the old ones of the recent ones.
