Copier technology has changed drastically in the last few years. Earlier, business had no other option except for black and white copying whereas now they have also have a choice of discount copies that are in color. Also, where once all copiers had to be fed sheets of paper in standard sizes and have paper originals to copy, now commercial copiers often feed paper off a roll and cut to the needed size as copies are made. Changes in technology and advances in copiers make it possible to get black and white copying for as little as one cent each if ordering enough copies.

Of course the final price per copy depends on the amount of work that must be done to make the product ready for the customer. If book binding or other bindery skills are needed to finish out the product, the pricing will be higher for the finished product.

No matter how much processing has to take place to make the copies ready for the customer, discount copies are often offered as an enticement. Of course, discount copies are much easier for copy centers to offer on black and white copying than on color because of major differences in the prices of black toner vs. full color toner cartridges that include four colors of ink or toner that blend to produce the entire rainbow. Plain black will always be less expensive to buy, therefore can be sold for less without losing too much profit. This makes black and white copying so much cheaper.
