Cat skiing is strongly related to heli skiing. On one hand, they present the same advantages of providing the skiers with unique experiences that are guaranteed to make their adrenaline levels go off the chart and operators who race one another in the bid to offer their best services, accommodations, meals and travel means opportunities. On the other hand, there are two main differences. First of all, while practicing heli skiing you get a ride by the helicopter, the snow cat skiing requires a snow cat to deliver you to your destination point. Consequently, the second difference is revealed. Obviously, it costs way more to put the big, powerful, scary helicopter in motion, so cat skiing becomes a more cost effective alternative and makes itself available to more people.
The perfect day for snow cat skiing starts with a healthy breakfast served at the hotel where you and your group are accommodated or at a restaurant, diner, eatery or café. After this meal is served, the snow cat is ready to departure. When inside the snow cat, you are given safety warnings and tips as well as radio beacons supplied by the operator. As a supplementary caution measure, the first trip run by the snow cat at the start of the day is short, so as to get accustomed with powder catskiing.
Afterwards, the distance from the lodge keeps getting longer and you are given the opportunity to try out new areas of the mountains and new slopes each time you go cat skiing. Usually, powder catskiing groups move very quickly and never stay too long in the same place. Should you stay for more than one day, the snow cat skiing guides will reach for alpine heights, provided that you have gained some experience from the previous days of powder catskiing and the weather is nice.
While out on the slopes, you can either try snow cat skiing alone or with a partner. Whichever the case, you will be under the supervision the cat skiing guide so no-one gets lost. Depending on the area you reach, some slopes may present higher difficulty levels such as the ones with many trees, while other might be as open as the common ski slopes from traditional resorts.
An important aspect is that nobody gets left behind, so the slowest skier dictates the speed of the entire group. In pauses, you can stop and take pictures, share a joke, laughter or experiences. The guides put absolutely no pressure on anybody. They are at the groups’ disposal and ready to respond to their needs and wants every time and as quickly as possible.
After experiencing the joy of powder cat skiing, each time on slopes with virgin, untouched snow, each snow cat brings its’ group to the door of the lodge they are accommodated in. This usually happens around 4 in the afternoon. Shortly, dinner is served, after the lunch has been had in the snow cats from packages during the cat skiing day. The tired guests are then free to pursue hobbies, go out together or enjoy a massage, a steam bath or a sauna. Taking all the aforementioned schedule into consideration, a powder catskiing trip is the perfect choice for both a family vacation as well as a trip with friends.
