If you have decided upon the type of cattle to raise, there are certain things you should not miss out on before you start purchasing. First, consider your location. Assess whether it is appropriate for raising cattle. Is the location far enough from a residential neighborhood? Does it have enough greenery? How many cattle could it possibly accommodate?

Next, you need to consider your human resource. You need a few people to look after your cattle. Cattle need tending. Someone has to graze them over your pastures. The more cattle you raise, the greater is the need for human resource.

Third, do you have the facilities and sources? Cattle need shelter, that is, it should be water-proof. They also need space to graze that would mean at least two acres of land for each cattle. You also need to have a water system because you have to constantly supply your cattle with water to drink. Especially when its summer, you must at least have a storage room for your haystack apart from your pasture. Remember that you must keep your hay or any cattle food dry. Too much moisture in a cows food may possibly cause them illness. You might need to put up a run-in shed in case rain should fall while grazing them.

Like us, and our pets, your cattle can get sick; they may acquire a virus from the food they eat or from the air. Now it can cause you a big problem, if that happens to a number of them. To reduce the risk, there must be proper planning and management of your livestock. At least consult a veterinarian who is specifically knowledgeable about cattle.
