Since Optional Fees may be availed of at the sole discretion of the client, funeral providers cannot impose payment.
There are also Cash Advance Fees that have to be paid to a funeral provider, and these cover items or services provided by third parties, including flowers, organists, priests and the like. Funeral Rule requires that funeral providers state these fees explicitly on their pricelist, with a detailed description of each item or service and clients are required to pay these fees. The funeral provider is also obliged to inform the client in cases where there will be refunds, discounts or rebates.
