High school is likely one of the most significant times of your entire life. You hear it time and time again. People wax nostalgic for high school, wishing they could go back and revisit or have a chance to do it all over again. Thankfully we have reunions to look forward to, and today more than ever, it is easier to keep in touch with friends.
But, in between reunions and as friends move to other parts of the world, high school yearbooks give us something tangible. Yearbooks get pulled out over and over as the years go by, to be giggled at and shared with our own kids. It’s fun to have your own children see if they can pick you out of the crowd. Your children are sure to be amazed when they first see you in your high school yearbook. They may even doubt it’s you and think you are pulling their leg.
If you have children of your own, eventually they too will be high school students—believe it or not. Once they get into high school, they may get excited about taking yearbook photos, and if they are on the yearbook staff, thinking of great fresh, fun yearbook ideas to personalize each book to that year’s classes, making the annual book a reflection of the times. Current events happening both locally and globally help kids remember what was going on during a particular year in high school. It’s interesting to see what yearbook ideas the staff comes up with to make each year’s book a sign of the times.
When the yearbook finally comes out at the end of the year, it is an exciting time for students as they look forward to seeing the collection of memories and participate in the tradition of getting friends to sign their book. Be sure your student buys a yearbook and participates in this tradition. As a parent, you know from first-hand experience how fun it is to be able to take a stroll back down memory lane via your high school yearbooks.
