Dream board, or vision board, is a projection about goals and dreams about what we want our life to be.

The concept arose in the US with the nineteenth century New Thought movement and the creation of dream boards or vision boards to help one visualize their intentions. One of the first to practice the technique of creative visualization was Wallace Wattles who wrote "The Science of Getting Rich", which he believed was based on spiritual principles and visualization.

You can make the dream board all by yourself, in electronic edition on your computer or paper edition. It’s up to you.

Making your own dream board is rather easy. Here are some important instructions you don’t want to skip.

1. You have to prepare a large board like paper, or using the computer programs that allow you to get things down.

2. Collect images.

You are going to look for pictures that either show how you want to feel, where you want to go or want you want to have.

You can find the pictures from magazines or from the search engine like google.com.

If you want to travel cut out pictures of the places you want to go. Find pictures of someone doing the things you want to, sailing or skiing, climbing a mountain or hiking. If you want to write a book, look for pictures of a computer with someone typing.

3. Figure out what you want and compile the images

Sometimes I know specific things that I want and sometimes what I want is more of an idea or concept. Sometimes I'm more in touch with what I want to feel or where I want to go spiritually or intellectually than I am concrete details. It doesn't really matter. The dream board is about your dreams. It's your map to you, so it can be about swimming pools and red boots or it can be about happiness and mental peace. It can also be a combination of these things. I make a big dream board at the start of the year that encompasses my dreams for the next 12 months and smaller specific ones throughout the year.

Choose the pictures you like and can figure out where you want to go. And then look for the images that represent your dreams and put them together.

4. Get some words for your dream board.

Write the statements in the present tense, as if you are already living this dream. I look for words and phrases to cut out of magazines, but I also write my own. You don’t have to write them down with your own handwriting on the board, but type and prints things out.

This is a mind trick. We often don't believe or trust ourselves the way we do outside "authority" and when we see a statement like I experience joy written in our own handwriting, it doesn't have the same impact as a typeset Joy clipped out of a magazine.

5. Arrange the dream board.

This is the fun part. Move the images and words around and listen to how they speak to you. There are so many different ways you can arrange the board. This is also a time when you'll find some of the images just don't work. Only keep the ones that feel electric and vibrant. How you feel when you look at the board is the only thing that's important.

6. Keep it to yourself and dream with it.

This may sound superstitious, but to me, I don't want other people seeing my board. Sometimes they do, and that's okay, but as a general rule, I feel protective of my dream board and like to keep it private.

Put the board in the places up to attention, and make sure you can read it, meditate with it, and listen to it. Some people even like taking a picture of their dream board and used it as the wallpaper on their computer.

So feel good, and be confident about what you are doing with the dream board.

Wish your dreams come true!
